Old News

Friday 23 February

[Bruno] and [Wybo] are on their way to the [Fosdem].

Attend the lightningtalk about [LogiLogi Manta] on sunday the 25th! It starts at 11:00.

Sunday 18 February

For the coming months 5 students from the Radboud University Nijmegen will - as a course project - be cooperating with us to make a stable release of Manta, to improve it, and last but not least, to make it work in a very user friendly way!

Also the [Fosdem] is near... In just 7 days Wybo will be presenting Manta there in a lightning-talk.

Wednesday 14 February

The presentation about LogiLogi Manta for the [Center for Metahistory] went well yesterday! The sheets can be found [here].

Monday 29 January

The World LogiLogi Day of yesterday was a nice gathering!

We found a few bugs in [the Manta pre-alpha], which we're going to fix soon, and we are also working on implementing the missing pieces of the user interface. Our next target now is a first final release.

Join our [announce mailinglist] if you want to know when the time is there!

Wednesday 24 January

On the 13th of February I will be presenting LogiLogi Manta for the [the Center for Metahistory Groningen].

Monday 22 January

We are glad to announce the 28th of January - with a wink and a smile ;-) - as the World LogiLogi Day. If you like parties, if you ever wondered what LogiLogi Manta is, or if you would like to use it with many other people all over the world at the same time, you are welcome to join us on this day in:

And - of course - online on freenode.net in #logilogi and on the [pre-alpha of Manta] itself.

Tuesday 16 January

The pre-alpha is back [online]. The downtime was caused by a problem with the page- elements-menu of Manta.

Still it is probably quite slow now, as a bunch of webcrawlers are hitting it at this very moment.

Monday 15 January

The pre-alpha of Manta at port 3000 is down due to a bug in the mongrel-server + mysql set-up, or some other glitch. I will fix it tomorrow.

Tuesday 9 January

On sunday February the 25th at 11:00 I will be giving a presentation about LogiLogiManta at the [Fosdem 2007 Conference] in Brussels!

Friday 5 January

A first impression of the UI of LogiLogiManta, the upcoming version of LogiLogi can be seen [here]!

Tuesday 2 January

A happy new year!

The first pre-alpha of LogiLogiManta is near, I'm currently replacing most of the stub-text with the real input on the UI.

And for my fellow Railers: Wondering how to call link_to, or render, or other ActionView stuff outside Rails ? Have a read, it's quite easy.

Monday 4 December

Yesterday the server was down due to a bug in a bootscrtipt that came to light when our server was moved and re-booted.

Fixed now, and everything is up and running again.

Tuesday 28 November

I have been in London the last few days, to meet other web- related open- source programmers. I'm statying with tav (freenode IRC-nick, he's behind http://www.green.tv, though that site is not yet open source...). Tomorrow I will have to return to the Netherlands again.

London really is a beautifull city with lots of interesting people and hackers aroud.

While meeting some of these people we came up with the idea to organize a LogiLogi- day at the 28th of January (or a later date), on which we launch the new version of LogiLogi, and start discussions on it in party-like gatherings at different locations in the world (of which two are already likely to be London and Groningen).

It would be great to have these in more locations.

Tuesday 7 November

Today two people joined the development- team of LogiLogi: Jennifer Weng, and Saurabh Bhide.

I wrote a note on Manta as an experiment.

And for our fellow [railers] check commits the easy way, an easier way to do recipe 46 from Rails Recipes.

Wednesday 25 October

The user interface of LogiLogiManta is beginning to take shape.

I also mada a writeup on sustainable open source webdevelopment...

Friday 29 September

The development process is proceeding well. We also got a discussion going this week on the [LogiLogi mailing list] about the merits of LogiLogiManta.

An entirely different topic: Tomorrow I and professor T. Lauttamus will be giving a presentation on the research project of us, professor J. Nerbonne, et al. at the [LCTG-conference].

Sunday 27 August

I'm home from Australia, and a few days ago I continued the creative process of creating the new version of LogiLogi.

The entire [source] is documented now and in a few weeks time I expect to be able to show the first isolated parts of functionality in action in an online demo.

Also the code-name of the new version changed to LogiLogi Manta, partly because of my awe for the manta ray I saw in Australia while diving, and because it's just plainly a more beautifull name than the previous one (Algae)

Sunday 20 August

The Tadford reef was beautiful. I even - gently - tapped a grey sea turtle on the back... I really, really loved Australia, and I certainly want to visit it again. I'm in Honkong, and on my way back now.

Monday 14 August

The Reef near Lady Musgrave Island was fabulous. Living colors, growing shapes, moving life, a whole new and amazing world is down there... I'm in Cairns now. I stay with George Newnham from the [Hospitality Club]. Tomorrow I will go sailing and diving for two days with the Rum-Runner dive boat!

Thursday 10 August

I had diving lessions and I received my PADI Open Water Diver certificate today. Tomorrow I will go diving near the reefs of Lady Musgrave Island. Looking forward to it. Australia Rocks!

Sunday 6 August

I spent a week hiking on [Fraser Island]. It was magnificant! No words for it. I also went for a day of whale watching from Hervey Bay. Now I am at the Cool Bananas (what a name ;-) YHA in a place called 1770.

Monday 24 July

[My talk] went well yesterday. The conference has ended. It was great to be there!

I'm in tourist mode now. Travelling up along the east coast of Australia, ultimately to Cairns, for now to [an author of children's books I know], who lives near the Gold Coast, and on thursday on to Harvey Bay (from where I will attempt to go camping on [Fraser Island]...).

Tuesday 18 July

We're already two days into the conference now. I've met quite a few interesting people and ideas yet. My talk will be on Sunday the 23rd.

I like it here. Sydney is a beautiful city..., but a bit rainy at the moment.

Thursday 13 July

I'm on my way to Sydney now for [the Coling/ACL 2006 conference].

Saturday 27 May

The development of LogiLogi Manta is progressing steadily (although not as fast as we planned). The link-system is almost done.

Also today the final version of my first scientific publication was finished: [A Measure Of Aggregate Syntactic Distance]. I am co-author together with my professor [prof. J. Nerbonne].

I will give a presentation about it this summer at the [Coling/ACL 2006 conference] in Sydney, Australia, and it will be published in the proceedings of this conference.

Tuesday 25 April

The reviewed transcription of Ankersmit's Theorie II lecture has arrived. It can be found here: [Theorie II Dictaat]

Sunday 22 January

Great news! We received a sponsorship for the further development of the upcoming version of LogiLogi: LogiLogi Algae from the Faculty of Philosophy at the RuG. Lars Buitinck and Wybo Wiersma will be working on it for the coming five months.

Sunday 8 January

We received the official transcription of Ankersmit's Theorie I lecture. It can be found here: [Theorie I Dictaat]

Monday 2 January

We received a .doc summary from Pieter Boelstra for Dutch history. It can be found under Files. Thanks!

Also the "bug" (a change in date-format between MySQL and PHP) that caused dates to be displayed wrongly has been fixed.

Friday 30 December

LogiLogi was moved to the new server in Groningen successfully. It should be a lot faster now. Wish you all a happy new year!

Saturday 24 December

The server was delivered last Thursday. I'm almost done configuring it ([lighttpd], [rails], [mysql], [php5], [qmail], [djbdns]). It's quite fast for being low budget (AMD Sempron 64). Next wednesday around 12'o clock it will be placed in a rack of [Zylon Internet Services] in the [SIG Telehousing] in Groningen. LogiLogi might be unreachable on wednesday and thursday due to DNS- propagation.

However for now no server- talk but a good Christmass to all!

Monday 19 December

The delivery of the server is delayed. It will arrive at the end of this week, and probably be placed just before or after the end of 2005.

Thursday 15 December

LogiLogi is going to get it's own server in the SIG Telehousing in Groningen! This will make logilogi a lot faster from the users perspective. The move to this new server can cause LogiLogi to be unreachable for some time on wednesday and/or thursday next week.

Monday 24 October

A section for philosophy on the RuG is up already for some time. A new release of Lake can be expected soon.

Also we received lecture-transcriptions of Cultuurgeschiedenis and definition-lists for Moderne Geschiedenis from Femke Hottinga and Anne Korsten.

Wednesday 31 August

I'm back home. Yesterday evening I arrived from Moncton, Canada. After P.E.I. I also visited Newfoundland. I went to Gros Morne National Park (one of the most beautifull spots on my planet) and for 10 days I traveled along the southcoast of Newfoundland. Hardly any tourists there, really, really friendly people (ever been invited for dinner 5 times in 10 days by different people you never met before ?), ferry's that are almost for free (less than 5 dollars for 2 hours on a ship), and last but surely not least, an amazing landscape... I truely love Newfoundland!

Shitty enough the power-supply of my computer broke down while I was travelling. No old nor recent mails have been lost I tink, but it'll take a few days before the replacement power supply comes in...

Monday 8 August

I'm in Charlottetown now, on Prince Edward Island. The conference was great! Canada in general makes a very good impression on me. Lots of wide open spaces, nature, and friendly people...! I'm moving to Nova Scotia tomorrow.

Monday 25 July

This saturday I will fly to Moncton, Canada for a visit to the [Methods XII Twelfth International Conference on Methods in Dialectology] where the research into the English of Finnish immigrants to Australia that I worked on, will be presented. After that I'll be travelling through Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island till the 23rd.

Monday 23 May

The final (checked and official) version of the transcription of Ankersmit's lectures [has been added]

Sunday 30 January

The current version of LogiLogi has undergone an upgrade that will probably be almost unnoticable to the casual user. The database has been optimized a bit, and further tweaks have been applied to optimize it for searchengines.

Tuesday 18 January

For the next months (as of February) I will spend much more time on the creation of LogiLogiAlgae. The work lagged behind for various reasons, some of which personal, some of which practical. I decided to move some courses that I had planned for the next semester to next year. The result will be that I get my Bachelor's degrees a year later, but I think my plans with LogiLogi are worth it...

The final version of the transcriptions of the lectures of Ankersmit have been added.

Tuesday 14 December

Another Quickstart-Sheet has been added. This new [Quickedit sheet] explains the editing process.

Wednesday 24 November

I've created a Quickstart-sheet to help new LogiLogi users with finding their way on this site.

Tuesday 23 November

LogiLogi is now for the first time officially used in a university course. We are using it with the consent of prof. F Ankersmit for the sharing between students of transcriptions of his lectures at the RuG.

Thursday 30 September

LogiLogi.org Make has been released. It's the first in a series of C++ releases to make LogiLogi Algae possible.

Thursday 9 September

The upgrade to LogiLogi Algae is postponed even further. I am sorry but some other activities prevented me from working on it; notably my SPAM -researches but also a long holiday travel to Romania, and others... I can't set a real release date yet, but around Christmas would be nice... ;)

Monday 28 June

The search-engine upgrade is postponed. It will be included into the major upgrade (code-name Algae) that is scheduled to be finished in September.

Tuesday 18 May

I had no time to complete the upgrade last week(s). Next week I'll be busy too, after that I'll find some time for the upgrade.

Friday 30 April

I discovered a small bug related to the prefs-page links. It's fixed now. No more strange usermade prefs pages with the word english in it ;)

At the end of this week I will optimize LogiLogi for searchengines a bit, according to the advice sponsored to us by http://www.hitprofs.com

Then I'll also make a new release.

Monday 29 March

The server appeared to be still running (it's located in the USA, I had no physical access to it), it only became disconnected. So it's connected again, no data was lost, and LogiLogi is at full speed again.

Saturday 27 March

LogiLogi has been down due to server problems. With an 48 hours old backup of the data it's running again.

Temporarily LogiLogi is back on it's old server (that is 500 Mhz, behind a 16kb upstream connection).

A few chapters of a summary I was adding yesterday, and the day before that, have been lost.

I hope it can move back to the faster server soon, but as it seems now, it can take more than a week...

Tuesday 16 March

Lately I've had little time to work on LogiLogi. Tests are approaching and three essays need ten typing fingers... Besides that I'm currently working on an interesting but time and thoughts-consuming reseach-project regarding developments in the topics of SPAM during the last seven years.

I've however found some time to set up a backup-script for LogiLogi, so each day a copy of the database is copied to a different computer. The complete database can now be downloaded from /MetaLogi/DownLoad.

Also I'm adding summaries for the books for which I've Exams in the following week(s) (these are in Dutch, see the Dutch section...).

Thursday 22 January

Back in the cold, flat, wet Netherlands for some time again (yes it's true, the weather might be very production- stimulating here, but that's about it when being positive about the Dutch weather ;-)

LogiLogi is stil high and dry. Thanks to Maxi Matthé the German HowToUse is coming online!

Friday 26 December

I'm in an Internet cafe in India now. LogiLogi is working well from this slow PC that's over here too... Only the Javascripts seem to give trouble here... I'll have a look at it when I'm back.

Greetings to all from
India,
The land of life and light...

Saturday 20 December

I'm on a holiday to India untill the 5th of January. LogiLogi will just stay open.

I wish you all a Happy Christmas.and a Merry New Year

(to speak about clichés ;)

Saturday 1 November

The new LogiLogi is already up for some time now. Things are going well, except for the caching-system that needs work.

However I'm now busy with a paper for Cultural History, and after that much other things need to be done... Also because the number of visitors is still within reasonable limits, the caching-system is neccessary, but not crucial yet.

I'd like to encourage you all to participate on the ForuM, and to have a try at using it for the formulation and exploration of thoughts and ideas.

Monday 20 October

LogiLogi has been updated to version 0.28.2, now including a MySQL dump with initial pages. Also the Italian and Spanish languages have been added.

They can be expected here as soon as the DNS has resolved it.- and es.logilogi.org

Thursday 16 October

Finally LogiLogi 0.28 plankton is up and running!

Developers and HelP-page writers are welcome to join.

Leave a message on the ForuM, get your fellow students to join you in the creation of summaries of your schoolbooks (mail me for the setup of a section), or just read the HelP pages, and play around in the SandBox.

Monday 13 October

Much still needs to be done in the Help-section. If you have questions or if you want to help, you're welcome to e-mail me at wybo@logilogi.org
