LogosSomeone asked me why LogiLogi has been called LogiLogi. LogiLogi comes from Logos. This word was used in greek to denote word, thought, language, principle, thesis, and logic. These are connotations that touch upon what LogiLogi wants to bring together. After all LogiLogi is a platform for sharing, expanding, integrating and discussing thoughts and theses. Plato and Aristotle meant the human capability for reason when they used the word Logos. The Stoics bestowed the name Logos on the life- force behind the universe and in Chistianity it even referred to the mind of God. These definitions go a bit too far for LogiLogi... Besides this all an url based on Logos also seemed easy to remember and to communicate (and the domain name LogiLogi.org was still available). The duplication of Logos into LogiLogi could be looked at as calling it a system of words of words: it is allowing a linkage between teksts as close as that between the letters of a word. I know that what we have now is not yet suited for real philosophical or humanities writings, however for sharing notes and making summaries it is nice already. The upcoming version called LogiLogi Manta will make more possible. |
