Canterbury Tales

The Canterbury Tales, written by Geoffrey Chaucer in 1387, was told by a group of 30 pilgrims travelling to Canterbury. Chaucers original idea was to have a story told by each pilgrim on the way to Canterbury, and 2 more on the way back. The stories were based on the 14th century.

I have some doubts about what is expressed below

Chaucer's year of birth is unknown, but people reckon it was around 1340. He died in 1400.
Before Chaucer became an author, he had been a diplomat, a soldier, a construction supervisor, an intelligence officer, a controller of customs, and a member of parliament, (MP).
Chaucer was considered to have made vital contributions to english literature of his time.
